Time never seem enough

Have you ever encounter the feeling that 24hrs a day isn't enough ? Everyone have 24hrs a day it's actually how you use it. If you divide the 24hrs into 8 hrs blocks.

8hrs for sleep
8hrs for work
8hrs for eat, bath, transport, family, personal time

well some might be able to sleep as little as 4-6hrs daily and wake up with full drive the next day but most of us will be dozing on desk...If you are those who have tips for sleeping less and feeling energetic the next day, please share =D

Work, if you are an employee you would not have much choice of cutting ya working hours but if you are a workaholic, chances are high that you easily spent 10-12hrs working. I would not categorize myself under this group but for the past few days I have been working 12hrs daily arghh. Felt so exhausted and moody. By the time I reached home, dinner, wash up etc, follow by tracking of stuffs I missed during the day(emails) as I was in the data server, surf a little on news and blogs and pooooh...foooo time for bed! If you are self-employee, the more you would want to maximize your earning and you would spent more time finding the ways and means to reach your goals.

Lastly, the final block for bath, meals, transport, family, personal. Lets see lunch and dinner will add up to about 2hrs(if you are doing the cooking and washing which is very time consuming, this may easily be 4-6hrs). As for the transport, normally it's 2 hours from source to destination and vice versa. Left with only 2hrs for family and 2hrs for personal.

24hours a day really seem so short and time does not stop and wait for you.

Traffic

Some analogy by bill from Amasci : "Merging-Lane Traffic Jams"

He's solution:

<<<<<
Normally, drivers who pack themselves tightly together whenever the traffic comes to a stop. Nobody can merge except the end of the jam. Note their speed.
>>>>>
Drivers with unusual behavior will encourage others to merge ahead of them and maintain large spaces ahead. This way, the merging is EASY. Compare the speed with the right.

Traffic jams on highways are often triggered where two lanes must merge into one, typical example CTE on peak hours. Lanes of cars move slowly to merge as there's hardly any gaps between cars. Therefore, drivers who create large gaps between cars will ease this type of traffic jam.

Here's the problem, this solution require effort of all drivers. How to make it work ? Get traffic police to draw a proposal for this and make it as a traffic rules ?

Well watched "The departed" on Saturday. For those who had watch Internal affair, the storyline is exactly the same with minimal different. I like the part where Matt Damon start a conversation with Vera Farmiga in/out the lift. Interesting pickup line and ending with a deep impression. I cant remember the conversation but the last move left a deep impression. Imagine a guy trying to check you out, you guys started an interesting conversation. Before the lift door close, he pass his namecard to your hands and 1.5 second later, "hey I m kidding, I need that card" cya. Will this guy leave a deep impression to you ? Yes, for me ? why I still remember the scene now =D.

Last time First time

Saw an advertisement on TV the other day, "When the last time you try something for the first time?" It caught my attention and sent my brain cells retrieving the answer for that question. The last time I tried something for the first time, "Advance Theory" =D first attempt and passed!

Now it's your turn to close your eyes and think about it, "When the last time you try something for the first time?" Think about it, doing new things give you sense of excitement/fear, imagine if a life doing the same thing repeatedly for 10 days, 30, days 180 days, 365 days?

Examples

Came up with these 2 examples awhile ago,

1) If you wanna go hougang from tampines and only mode of transport is bus. You choose to take bus 10, will you reach hougang ? Everyday you take bus 10 and expect to reach hougang.

If the current actions does not bring you what you want. CHANGE your action!

2) Have it happen in your life before, you wanted something so dearly, eg a wallet that can purchase with $10. Will you be attracted to it or treasure it ?

If this wallet need you to pay $5000, take 1 week of leave, take flight to Nepal, swim for 10km to get it. How will you treat this wallet ?

Key to major illness

still remember the sheep dolly ?? The first cloned sheep by humans. There's been lots of funds and resources pump into research of human cells or maybe usable organ parts ultimately to prolong one's life.

Still remember the movie, "The Island" ? For those who missed it, its about a company who provide backup human parts (only for those richie). This company actually got a large scale underground factory cloning their clients once they signed off the deal. Upon crisis of the client, his/her clone will be used.

From, http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/singaporelocalnews/view/221554/1/.html
Singapore-based biotech company, ES Cell International (ESI), has become the first in the world to create human embryonic stem cells designed for clinical use.

This could speed up international stem cell research, which holds the key to the cure of major diseases.

This technology will prolong human health and lifespan in time to come. More lives maybe save, together with new lives born, what will happen?

Condo 70

There's a couple in this city who just strike the 10 million lottery. They always wanted to have a penn house to be build on the 70th storey high condo. Finally the day has come for them to make the purchase with the winnings. After 2 years of waiting, the penn house is complete and the official give them a ring and made an appointment for them to view the penn house.

Happyily, they went to purchase some fruits, joss stick, clothes, brush and cleaning agents for the new penn house. They drove a short ride to their condo area and visited the security guard house to collect the keys for their penn house. Upon reaching the lift, they saw the notice, "lift under service". They were like arghh, do we still go up and take a look but its 70 storey say the wife. The husband encourage his wife c'mon lets go since we are already here.

After reach the 10th storey, the wife start saying "i m tired". But they still carry on. When they reach 20th storey, the wife start grumbling with emotion and body langauge wanting to take a break. But husband been keen and motivate to view their penn house, encouraged his wife to continue. At 30th storey, the wife really cant take it, insisted on having a break to relax the load a little. Its just too heavy on me. Husband feel somewhat similar too and decide " lets leave our loads here and collect it later after we are done. Their mood and morale become better after unloading all their stuffs. Reaching 40th storey is almost the threshold for the wife, the husband feel tired too but they told each other now we are at the half way mark, not too far high up neither too far down. Lets carry on with it. At 50th storey, blaming and quarreling started between the couple. "why did you choose to climb up at the first place, there always another day", "I could be at home now doing the things i want". Reaching 60th storey, gunpower level become higher for the wife. The husband took a deep breath and replied, "Alright dear, lets calm down its just 10 more storey". FINALLY they reached 70th, their feelings were at the highest peak, hugging each other, YEAH!! we make it. They walked up the door and waited. After a few seconds they turn over and look at each other, "c'com, open the door ? " Their face suddenly turned long and sour!!! OMG where's the "KEY" ? its at 30th storey!!! place where they unloaded all their stuff.

Dreams are powerful skill that human possess. Lots of impossible started off with dreams, eg Light bulb, aeroplanes, cars. Everyone have their own dream, in the above story the couple can turn back and return for their key. But if it's a life stages, can you turn back time when you are 70s and look for your Dream - key ?

Granny - Regret

Things just happen before you know it.

On Monday, granny sky dive off the kitchen window and died. It was worst than shocked the moment i heard the news from my bro, BLANK.

Lately, she has been telling my mum that she saw those 'old' uncles and auntie appearing and talking to her. She's having hallucination but what caused it was unknown. But some chinese superstitious believe that its time for the living to enter the other world when you start seeing image of those already dead.

It could be the difficult and demanding treatment she got from my great grandma and perhaps other factors. Sadly, i m not really close to those relative on my mum side thus i know little.

About 3 weeks ago, i got to know the news that granny state of mind is unstable. My uncles bought her for doctor consultation (western and chinese sensei)and even those median but progess of her condition seem slow. I decided to visit her during one of the weekends. Somehow i did put it to priority and have been delaying my visit.

The long delayed visit finally been done yesterday, but it was heart-aching. I can only watched her peaceful face sliently from the side of her coffin. Physically she's so near but actually it's so far. In my mind, "WHY DIDNT I TURN UP EARLIER".

There's millions or even billions of tasks in life, majors and minors co-exist. Do not let those minor task delay or obstruct your major item. Even for major item, they can be catergorize under 1)urgent not important 2) important not urgent 3)urgent and important. Set your priority accordingly and ACT!!

Think Abt 'R'

I was reading a book on MRT, its was written in chinese, i only manage to complete 3 pages from Harbour Front MRT to Hougang MRT. Not because my chinese is really that poor, didnt fall asleep neither its beautiful babes around. Its the contents that make me took up my 'heavy duty nokia 7250' haha those who saw it should know why i quote it.

Inside is talking about some survey done in US on the retirement funds of 100 Americans. If you want to know the ratio just do a search on the web, i think you should be able to find those info easily.

The main dish is : retirement

With reference from - http://www.singapore-window.org/sw05/050225to.htm

Average retired Singaporean has among the lowest average monthly retirement income among the 15 countries, at $1692. Canada ranked first with $4216, with Hong Kong last at $1177.

This average monthly income is marginally above the average household expenditure of $1592.

The study, however, did not take into account factors such as different costs of living in these 15 countries.

1) When you plan to retire ? Let this age be 'A'
2) How much you want to have each month after the retirement ?Let this amount be 'B'
3) What's your current age ? Let this age be 'X'
4) Have you start saving for retirement ? How much you save for retirement annually ? Let this amount be 'Y'
5)If you want to relies on your children support and giving you an amount monthly. Let this amount be 'Z'

Eg A average guy whose age 24 now and wish to retire at a age of 50 with monthly retirement fund of 1692 ( varies if loans not yet complete, children eduation or debts). Lifespan to age 80

Working life = A - X = 50 - 24 = 26 years
Retirement period = Lifespan - A = 80 - 50 = 30 years
Total retirement fund needed to last 30 years = 30 years * B = (30 * 12 )1692 = 609,120
Total retirement fund needed to last 30 years ( if your children are supporting you) = 30 years * B = (30 * 12 )(1692 - Z) = G
Saving needed monthly during working life = 609120 / (26 * 12) = 1952.30/mth

Thus this guy need to save 1952.30 monthly to have that amount of retirement income.

So how much do you have for your retirement ?

Facts :
http://www.singapore-window.org/sw00/000525fe.htm

Even government leaders warn that Singaporeans will need to look beyond the fund to finance their retirement. "The CPF is not sufficient," National Development Minister Mah Bow Tan said in November.

The trade-off for Singaporeans is that they can use their CPF accounts for major expenses such as housing and medical treatment

A government-led committee on ageing noted last year that 24 percent of the CPF members who reached age 55 in 1998 had less than S$16,000 (US$9,250) in their CPF accounts--an amount that will run out quickly if the retirees lack family support.

http://www.ssa.gov/policy/docs/progdesc/intl_update/2005-05/2005-05.html

"Despite having one of the world's highest saving rates, many Singaporeans are expected to have insufficient savings in old age because of preretirement withdrawals for housing purchases, low returns on CPF account balances, and the tendency for many to stop working at relatively early ages.

For example, the 3 million members of the CPF have placed S$110 billion (US$67.2 billion) of their savings into property but only S$29 billion (US$17.7 billion) into investments and insurance. Worsening demographics are compounding the problem. It is estimated that by 2030 the number of persons aged 65 and older will increase fourfold, with no corresponding growth in the working-age population to support them."

You're Blessed

Do you complain ? Maybe about your workload, working relationship with colleague, your friend's action, your family, personal stuffs etc ?

"Indonesia races to cope with quake survivors as death toll passes 5,400 with roughly 200,000 homeless."

Some of the people in our neighbouring country are struggling with basic surival and we are complaining about minor things in life. So telling yourself that you are fortunate, will make ya feel blessed.

But some may say, hey look its a different environment we are in. Here we are struggling for 'basic surival' too, we need to constantly work hard to buy a proper shelter(for most people will be tie to a loan which last for 20-30 years) and bread for our family. As we all know the 5 子 - 老子(parents),妻子(spouse), 屋子(house), 孩子(children), 车子(car)。 Have you ever sit down and think about the 5 items mentioned?

1) How old are your parents now ? How many years they can still work ? Are you going to take care of them?

2) Are you going to marry ? Are you guys going to have a memorable ROM & wedding celebration ? Plan to stay with family ? Both party working ? What are the family commitments for both parties ?

3) Getting a house ? What type you actually wanted or what can you afford after weighting all the factors? Loans and interest involve ? Have you find out how much you need per month just for house loan? Info : CPF could help

4) Plan to have kids ? Have you calculated the medical/education cost ? How many you plan to have? Whose going to take care and nurture them ?

5) Reason for getting a mode of transport ? Its a 10-15 years loan again for most people. Have you weight the pros and cons ? Down-payment, monthly payment, tax, petrol, insurance, parking, do work out your monthly finanical statment(highly recommend for everyone to have one, have you say something like that lifestyle or object only for the rich, where all my money gone?)

So find yourself maybe an hour to think about the above. If it helps you in anyway, do drop me a note =D

Cheers!!

Glass, nutz, bean

There was a professor whose suppose to give the class a lesson on life.
Given a glass cup, chest nutz and green beans

Professor filled up the glass with nutz and ask the student if he's able to input the beans.
On second scenerio, professor filled up the glass with beans first and ask the student if he's able to input the nutz.

Professor then ask the students what can you guys related the actions to life ?
Lots of interesting answer pop up but none of them match professor thoughts.

Just before the lesson end, professor explained:
There are lots of things that happen in life, if you are dwelling in tiny little stuffs there wont be space for major stuffs in your life. Thus set your major things/objectives you want in life and let the beans flow pass.
