 Moody’s Investors Service cut Greece’s credit ratings by three notches Monday, describing default as almost certain and warning that the new bailout plan for the country sets a negative precedent for creditors of other debt-strapped euro-zone nations

U.S. stock futures dropped and gold hit a record on Monday after President Barack Obama and Congress failed to reach a debt-ceiling deal, hiking fears of a U.S. downgrade

U.S. Treasury yields rise on debt-ceiling worries

Gold futures hit a fresh record in electronic trading Monday, as U.S. debt-ceiling talks to avert a default continued, with no apparent progress toward a deal.
Gold for August delivery GC1Q +1.05%   gained $16.30, or 1.0% to $1,617.70 an ounce on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange during Asian trading hours.

BlackBerry maker Research In Motion Ltd. RIMM -1.86%  , struggling to deal with sagging demand for its aging smartphone line, will cut its global workforce by about 2,000, leaving it with about 17,000 employees.
